Event passes that live in the wallet — and a gate that's just a phone
Put a branded pass in every guest's Apple or Google Wallet. Update it live when the plan changes. Check people in at the door with nothing but a phone camera. And when the event ends, keep the audience — every saved pass is a guest your next announcement reaches with a push.
The problem with PDF tickets
A PDF in an inbox is a dead document. Guests dig for it at the door with one bar of signal. It can't tell them the doors moved to 8pm. It gets forwarded, screenshotted, and printed. And the moment the event ends, it's gone — along with your connection to everyone who came.
A wallet pass is alive. It sits one swipe away with the boarding passes, surfaces itself on the lock screen when the guest arrives at the venue, updates in place when anything changes, and stays in the wallet after the night ends — a channel to your audience, not a piece of paper.
Before the doors: distribution that meets guests where they are
- Share links & QR codes — drop the link in your confirmation email, socials, or print the QR on the poster. One tap saves the pass.
- Branded email delivery — Pass Studio sends the wallet email for you, with your branding and both wallet buttons.
- Embedded forms — RSVP form on your site issues the pass on submit.
- REST API — already selling through a ticketing flow or your own site? One documented, idempotent call issues a personalized pass per order.
When plans change: push, don't resend
Doors moved, headliner swapped, weather date activated — edit once and every issued pass updates in place, with a notification on the lock screen. No mail merge at 6pm, no "please disregard the previous email." The pass in the guest's wallet is always the current truth of the event.
At the gate: any phone is a scanner
Every pass carries the guest's own code. Staff open the scan page in a phone browser — no app install, no hardware to rent — point the camera, and the guest is validated. A validated pass is marked on the spot, so a screenshot of it shows as already used at the next gate. Need to pull a pass entirely? Revoke it and it's dead at every door.
Gates can run in parallel: each register validates independently, and every validation is logged with where it happened.
Economics built for events, not subscriptions
Event programs are bursty: passes go out over weeks, everything happens in one night, and then it's quiet. Per-active-pass platforms bill you for every idle ticket every month. Pass Studio meters actions only — a pass sitting in a wallet costs nothing, and issuing and pushing cost credits. At the door, on Growth and Pro plans, scanning is capped at one credit per register per 15 minutes, however many guests come through.
A worked example. A 500-guest event — 500 passes issued, one "doors moved" push to everyone, and check-in through two gates — runs about 1,000 credits: it fits inside the Growth plan's $49/month with 2,000 credits included, with room to spare. Idle months before and after: no per-pass charges accrue.
After the event: the audience is the asset
Everyone who saved a pass opted into your channel. Announce the next date with a push to every wallet that held the last one. Convert the season's crowd into a membership or loyalty program on the same passes — points, rewards, register scans, no customer app.
And you'll know what filled the room: first-touch campaign parameters are stamped on every pass at issuance and preserved through validation, so which poster, ad, or newsletter drove attendance is a report, not a guess — streamable to your own analytics via Segment.
FAQ
Do guests need to install an app?
No. The pass saves straight into Apple Wallet or Google Wallet from a link, a QR code, or the branded email Pass Studio sends. Staff don't install anything either — the scan page runs in any phone browser.
Is Pass Studio a ticketing platform?
No — we don't sell tickets or process payments. Pass Studio turns whatever you already sell (or give away) into a living wallet pass: issue passes from your ticketing flow via the API, an embedded form, or a share link.
What does check-in cost for a big crowd?
On Growth and Pro plans, scan cost is capped at one credit per register per 15 minutes — no matter how many guests come through. A two-gate event that checks everyone in over an hour costs 8 credits at the door. Passes sitting in wallets before and after the event cost nothing — there is no per-active-pass fee.
What happens if the schedule or venue changes?
Push the change once and every issued pass updates in place, with a notification on the lock screen. No resending tickets, no reprinting.
Can I stop a pass from being reused or resold?
Each guest's pass carries their own code, and validation marks it redeemed — a second scan at the gate shows it's already been used. You can also revoke individual passes at any time.
What do I get after the event?
The audience. Everyone who saved a pass is reachable with a push for your next event — and first-touch attribution shows which channel filled the room.
