Smile, LoyaltyLion, Yotpo, Joy, Rivo: your members, now with a wallet pass
You pay for the program every month. Pass Studio gives your members the card that carries it, in Apple Wallet and Google Wallet, on the lock screen between visits. Your existing loyalty program keeps the points.
Last verified: October 2026. The register flow was tested on Shopify POS and POS Lite; the Smile facts are read from Smile's help center.
A loyalty program lives in an account page and an occasional email. Your best customers, the ones you built VIP tiers for, walk around with nothing in their pocket that says they are members.
A wallet card is the half of the program they can see. It sits on the lock screen, survives a phone upgrade, shows their name and member number, and can be pushed to when something changes. Nothing about your existing loyalty program changes to get there.
How it works
Three steps, no configuration between them.
- Publish a membership card from a template, with your branding and your fields.
- Members add it from a link, a QR code, the Thank you page after an order, their customer account, or an invite sent to the customers you already have.
- Staff scan it at checkout. The customer attaches to the sale, and your existing loyalty program awards its points exactly as it does today. Works on Shopify POS and on POS Lite.
What the card shows
Each card carries the member's name and member number, and, if you want them, the facts Shopify already knows: orders placed, total spent, member since. They refresh on the card after each paid order.
Points and tier from your rewards app. When your rewards app syncs points and tier to Shopify, the card shows them in its own POINTS and TIER positions, in place of any Pass Studio balance. LoyaltyLion, Joy and Rivo sync both. Smile syncs the VIP tier on Growth and above once you turn on VIP metafield sync in Smile (Program → VIP), so your members' tier can sit on the card; the points balance stays in Smile. Yotpo works through a Shopify Flow template we provide, which copies points and tier to the card on each paid order (Yotpo Pro or above).
The barcode can be your number. Switch on "Use Member ID as the barcode value" and every scan carries the reference your staff already know.
What this is not
This is not a loyalty-app integration. We do not touch your existing loyalty program, and we do not ask you to upgrade anything on its side. It keeps the points and keeps doing exactly what it does now. The card shows what you choose to put on it, including the tier Smile syncs to Shopify. The same is true beside LoyaltyLion, Yotpo, Joy, Rivo, or a program you built yourself.
For a store with volume
Issuing cards is not per-member work. Invite your existing customer list once: each customer gets an email with a one-click claim, the card is created from their Shopify record with nothing retyped, and it is linked to their customer ID from the first scan. New members get a card as they enroll, and three wallet buttons (Thank you page, Order status page, customer account) catch everyone who orders.
Points for the card itself
Reward the behavior you want with Shopify Flow, in two templates that ship with Pass Studio: award Smile points when a customer adds the card to their wallet, and award Smile points for each visit scanned at the register. Both run inside Shopify Flow with Smile on Essential or above. No code, no API keys. Find them in Flow under Browse templates: search "Pass Studio". All Pass Studio Flow templates →
FAQ
Do I have to change my loyalty app?
No. Nothing about your existing loyalty program changes. Points, rewards, referrals and VIP tiers stay where they are.
Does the card show my customers' points or VIP tier?
The card shows what your rewards app syncs to Shopify. Smile syncs the VIP tier on Growth and above, so the card can show each member's tier; the points balance stays in your Smile program. LoyaltyLion, Joy and Rivo sync points and tier. Yotpo works through a Shopify Flow template we provide, which copies points and tier to the card on each paid order (Yotpo Pro or above).
Does it work on POS Lite?
Yes. Tested on POS Lite, not only the full terminal. The card scans, the customer attaches to the sale, your existing loyalty program awards the points.
What about the customers I already have?
Invite them from your Shopify customer records. Each one gets a one-click claim link; the card is created from their record, nothing retyped, no CSV.
Can my customers earn Smile points for adding the card or for visiting?
Yes, through Shopify Flow. Two templates award Smile points when a card is added to a wallet and when a visit is counted at the register. Smile Essential or above.
Can I message my members on the card?
Yes. A message shows on the card and as a notification on the phone, to every member or to one.
What does it cost?
